Jayden Gearhart is a CPDLF class of 2022 senior and has been a learner with us for the past 12 years! He is the son of Adam and Jessica Gearhart of Lewiston, PA. After graduation, Jayden plans to go to school to be an auto and diesel mechanic.

Virginia Hamilton is a CPDLF class of 2022 senior and has been a learner with us for the past 3 years. She is the daughter of Genevieve and Deane Hamilton of Altoona, PA. After graduation, Virginia plans to go to college.

Daisey Henges is a CPDLF class of 2022 senior and has been a learner with us for the Spring 2022 semester. She is the daughter of Heidi Smith of Central City, PA. After graduation, Daisey is looking into many different options.

Olivia Myers is a CPDLF class of 2022 senior and has been a learner with us for a year. She is the daughter of Julie Hammel and Teddy Long of Duncansville, PA. After graduation, Olivia will be attending design school.

Madison Ford  is the CPDLF class of 2020 valedictorian and has been with CPDLF for the past two years. She is the daughter of Cathy and Mark Ford from Altoona, PA. In the fall, Madison will attend Juniata College to pursue a career in the medical field.

Why do you think a cyber option was best for you?

“It allows me to work at my own pace (and work ahead of the class). It allows me to travel and to focus on my dreams and aspirations, along with my schooling.”

How was your learning guide beneficial to your success at CPDLF?

“My learning guide, Ms. Dikum. helped me to prepare my college applications and helped me with any problems that occurred during the school year. She always reaches out to make sure everything is going good and to see if I need any help. She has helped me through discussions about my future and about what college life might be like for me.”

If you could talk about a misconception about cyber school what would it be?

“I think a lot of people in public school believe that people who switch over to cyber school are lazy or are looking for an easy way out, however cyber requires a lot of self-discipline and time management. You have to be able to teach yourself, work alone on most tasks, and push yourself to be on pace. You essentially get to make your own schedule, which can be very difficult for some people.”

Is there anything else you would like to share about your experience at CPDLF?

“CPDLF has been a great way for me to get an education and do a lot of things I want to do (like travel). Being able to work on the road has allowed me to travel to many places that are new to me. In fact, last year I traveled to around 18 states on a cross-country road trip that my family was originally unable to do (because I was originally in public school). CPDLF  has allowed me to work at my own pace and focus on what makes me truly happy. I have also been able to spend much more time with my family, which is such a blessing.”

Leah Tippett  is the CPDLF class of 2020 salutatorian and has been a learner with us for the past three years She is the daughter of Krista Tippett and Brad Tippett from Altoona, PA.  In the fall, Leah will attend  Penn State to pursue an education  in psychology.

Why do you think a cyber school option was best for you?

“With chronic medical conditions, a cyber option was best for me. Carrying a backpack and books while walking up and down flights of stairs was not ideal. Cyber gave me the option to focus on both my education and my health. CPDLF provided me with a more personalized learning experience. I was also able to pick from an abundance of classes that met my interests.”

How was your learning guide beneficial to your success at CPDLF?

“My learning guide, Ms. Dikum, was beneficial to my success at CPDLF because she was always there when I needed her. I could message her at any time of the day, and I knew she’d get back to me.”

If you could talk about a misconception about cyber school what would it be?

A common misconception about cyber is that it is only for the lazy students who don’t care about their education. This is very wrong! Cyber is a great way for students who just don’t click with a brick and mortar school setting to get their education. It is also a great option for students who have medical conditions.

Is there anything else you would like to share about your experience at CPDLF?

“Going cyber was something I contemplated for a while, but it was definitely one of the best decisions of my life. My mental health improved drastically, and I was able to go to doctors appointments without missing class. CPDLF finally made me feel like more than a number.”

Isabelle Musselman  is a CPDLF class of 2020 high honor student and has been a learner with us for the past 4 years She is the daughter of Jerry and Angela Musselman of Ashville, PA.  After graduation, Isabelle is going to pursue a career in small business management. 

Why do you think a cyber school option was best for you?

“In a cyber environment, there is less chance of bullying and I can work at my own pace.”

How was your learning guide beneficial to your success at CPDLF?

“My learning guide, Ms. Dikum, was very beneficial to my success since she was always positive and helped me with anything I needed.”

If you could talk about a misconception about cyber school what would it be?

“A misconception would be you can do whatever you want. Even though our schedules are flexible, we still have end dates and have to complete our work by midnight. Plus we have to check in with our learning guides, so it's not free range for us.”

Is there anything else you would like to share about your experience at CPDLF?

“I would like to say CPDLF has helped me become a more confident and stronger person. If I still went to my old school I don't think I would have been this successful.”

Alesca Cooper  is a CPDLF class of 2020 senior and has been a learner with us for the past year. She is the daughter of Shana and Tim Grove of Altoona, PA.  In the fall, Alesca is going to attend Lock Haven University with plans to get her Bachelors of Science as a Registered Nurse. 

Why do you think a cyber school option was best for you?

“I found that cyber was the best option for me because it allowed me to go to school and go to work at the same time. This allowed me to save money."

How was your learning guide beneficial to your success at CPDLF?and I was also able to travel with my family!.”

“My learning guide Ms. Dikum has helped me so much throughout this year. She was always there to answer any questions or concerns that I had, motivated me to do my best, and even gave me advice about my future endeavors!”

If you could talk about a misconception about cyber school what would it be?

“A misconception about cyber school is that it is for students to take the easy way out. In public school you go to a building and stay there until the school day is over. In cyber school you have to be able to tell yourself that you are going to do so many assignments one day and use your time wisely.”

Is there anything else you would like to share about your experience at CPDLF?

“I think a misconception about cyber school is that students that attend aren't as hardworking or tend to slack off more, when that's not the case. This past year in cyber I was pushed to do my best and being with CPDLF has improved my self-motivation.”

Giavonna Giordano  is a CPDLF class of 2020 senior and has been a learner with us for the past 2 years. She is the daughter of Stacey and John Giordano of Altoona PA. After graduation, Giavonna is going to attend Animal Behavior College to get her certification in professional dog training.

Why do you think a cyber school option was best for you?

“Cyber school allows me to work ahead and at my own pace. It allows me to get used to doing online schooling because the majority of my college is online. Lastly cyber school allows me to take my school work with me anywhere without missing a day of school.”

How was your learning guide beneficial to your success at CPDLF?

“My learning guide, Ms. Dikum, helped pave a path in the right direction for me. She would help me with anything when I reached out. She always encouraged me and told me I was doing a great job and to keep up the great work. She would check in with me to make sure I was doing okay and to see if there was anything I needed help with.”

Kathaleen Mikolich  is a CPDLF class of 2020 senior and has been a learner with us for the past 2 years. She is the daughter of Vicki Mikolich (deceased) and guardians Tyler and Melanie Reynolds of Johnstown, PA.  After graduation, Kathaleen is going to college for fire science. 

Why do you think a cyber school option was best for you?

“Cyber school allows me to work at my own pace.”

How was your learning guide, instructors or other support staff beneficial to your success at CPDLF?

“Miss Rose helped me a lot through my senior year and  I really appreciate that!  I’ll forever remember how she made me feel like one of her own kids every time we met or talked; she will always be a part of me. Ms. Dikum and Mrs. Morrissey helped me so much as well.  I’m so very appreciative of everyone who helped me get through my school year.”

If you could talk about a misconception about cyber school what would it be?

“A misconception about cyber school is that some people think cyber school is easy but it really isn’t. You have to be very determined.”

Elise Longo  is a CPDLF class of 2020 featured senior and has been a learner with us for the past 4  years. She is the daughter of Shelly Longo from Altoona, PA.  In the Fall, Elise will attend  Penn State to pursue an education in the medical field.

Why do you think a cyber school option was best for you?

“I think it better prepared me for life. It allowed me to work while going to school, and it also taught me a lot of useful skills such as time management and independent learning, both of which are important skills for college and life, and I don't think I would have mastered these skills in a brick and mortar school setting.”

How was your learning guide beneficial to your success at CPDLF?

“Ms. Dikum has been incredibly helpful during my time at CPDLF. It's awesome to have a person who you can go to with any question, any problem, anything. It makes my learning environment a lot more personalized and makes cyber school a lot easier to handle. Having Mrs. Dikum available to help me was amazing. I couldn’t have gotten through high school without her.”

If you could talk about a misconception about cyber school what would it be?

“Everyone always thinks that online school is easy. Just because I'm working from home rather than in a classroom doesn't make my lessons any easier. In fact, cyber school has more challenging elements-- such as time management and comprehension and learning to use your resources-- which students in a traditional school setting aren't exposed to as much. Some things about cyber school make it easier than traditional school, but some things make it much more challenging.”

Is there anything else you would like to share about your experience at CPDLF?

“I'm so glad that I had the option to attend CPDLF. I think cyber was a much better fit for my personal life and personal learning styles than traditional school was. I don't think I would be as successful as I am today without the option of attending CPDLF. I also don't think I would be as prepared for college, or life in general, without the awesome opportunities presented to me at CPDLF.”

Jada Robles  is a CPDLF class of 2020 featured senior and has been a learner with us for the past 4  years. She is the daughter of Jennifer Reed from Altoona, PA.  After graduation,  Jada is going to school to become a certified phlebotomist.

Why do you think a cyber school option was best for you?

“I was able to work at my own pace and faster. I also got to travel because I could take my work with me.”

How was your learning guide beneficial to your success at CPDLF?

“Ms. Dikum has helped me throughout the last 4 years and I’m so appreciative of that. She helped me with assignments, community service and so much more.  If she could help she would! She was a great learning guide.”

If you could talk about a misconception about cyber school what would it be?

“One misconception is that kids only do cyber because they are lazy, don’t want to go to school, or things like that. Some kids get bullied and can’t take it, some kids have medical problems and some kids just like to work alone and at their own pace.”
