Changes from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on Truancy:
Under Pennsylvania’s new Act 47 law, cyber schools are not allowed to enroll students who are considered habitually truant unless a judge approves it. The Pennsylvania Department of Education defines a habitually truant student as a child who has 6 or more unexcused absences in one school year.
If your child is habitually truant, they cannot enroll in a cyber school at this time unless the courts determine that the transfer is in the student’s best interest. You may contact your current school district for next steps or information about the truancy process.
